2010 Scholarship

2009 Scholarship

 
The TAWWA - State Scholarship Committee received 29 scholarship applications during 2009, of which seven were from the Houston area. 
 
There were 11 scholarships awarded this year.  Four scholarships were given to the following Houston area students: 
  •  Alison Contreras.  Alison is a member of AWWA and a graduate student attending Rice University.  She holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from Rice, and is working toward a PhD in Civil Engineering.
  • Michael Liga.  Michael is a member of AWWA and a graduate student attending Rice University.  He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Arizona in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering; and is working toward a Masters degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering.  
  • Ms. Olivia Rabalais.  Olivia is a cum laude graduate of St. Agnes Academy and is attending the University of Texas at Austin.  She plans to major in Art History.  Her sponsoring member is Gary Rabalais, with Malcolm Pirnie and a member of the Southeast Chapter of the Texas Section of AWWA.
  • Tommy Sheu.  Tommy is attending the Baylor College of Medicine working toward the dual MD/MPH program jointly administered with the University of Texas School of Public Health.  His sponsoring member is Kathlie S. Jeng-Bulloch, with the City of Houston and a member of the Southeast Chapter of the Texas Section of AWWA.
Each state scholarship recipient received $2,000 to assist with their educational expenses. Your SE Chapter donated $2000 towards the 2009 TAWWA Scholarship Winners. Other TAWWA chapters donated as well.
 
Following selection of the state scholarship recipients, the Executive and Standing Committee of the SETAWWA decided to award $1,000 chapter scholarships to each of the following local scholarship applicants:
  • Kathleen Kidder.  Kathleen is attending the University of Texas at Austin and is majoring in the Classics with a minor in History.  Her sponsoring member is Harold Kidder, with EMA, Inc. and a member of the Southeast Chapter of the Texas Section of AWWA.
  • Matthew Kocurek.  Matthew is a cum laude graduate of Alvin High School and is attending Alvin Community College; he plans to become a software engineer.  His sponsoring member is David Kocurek, with the City of Alvin and a member of the Southeast Chapter of the Texas Section of AWWA.
  • Francis Rabalais.  Francis is attending Louisiana State University and majoring in Vocal Performance.  She is a previous recipient of the State scholarship.  Her sponsoring member is Gary Rabalais, with Malcolm Pirnie and a member of the Southeast Chapter of the Texas Section of AWWA.

2008 Scholarship

The State Scholarship Committee received 22 scholarship applications this year.  There were 11 scholarships awarded this year.  Two scholarships were given to SE Chapter area students.  A state scholarship ($2000) was awarded to Ms. Jillian Robinson, attending Stephen F. Austin State University.  A southeast chapter scholarship ($2000) was awarded to Ms. Frances Rabalais, attending Louisiana State University.  Please join me in extending congratulations to our two Houston area scholarship recipients.
