Southeast Chapter of Texas AWWA Chapters of Texas AWWA were formed in several areas of the state so that the AWWA members can easily interact with the local water professionals in their area and partipitate in local activities. Celebrating its 15th year as a chapter, the Southeast Chapter of Texas AWWA was formed by Gary Smith in 1996 with the help of TAWWA Steering Committee. (Gary also started the North Texas Chapter in 1993.) The Southeast Chapter encompasses 22 southeast counties of Texas. As a member of the Texas Section of American Water Works Association, you have an opportunity to meet and build relationships with your peers in the water community, attend bi-monthly meetings with other water professionals, as well as share ideas and information. 2012 Call for Student Technical Research Papers 2010 Scholarship The Texas AWWA 2010 Scholarship application deadline closed on July 9, 2010. Winners will be announced late fall. There were 11 scholarships awarded this year. Four scholarships were given to the following Houston area students: Alison Contreras. Alison is a member of AWWA and a graduate student attending Rice University. She holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from Rice, and is working toward a PhD in Civil Engineering. Fellow SETAWWA members, I am honored to serve as the 2011 president of the Southeast Chapter of TAWWA and am humbled by the duty to continue the success this chapter has enjoyed under the leadership of the past several chapter presidents. Our organization is in a great position to continue offering great value to the water professional community in Southeast Texas, and that is due to the vitality of our membership and the continued support we get from our sponsors and event attendees. Water for People

Safe drinking water, basic health, hygiene education and sanitation facilities are nonexistent for impoverished people in the developing countries throughout the world. WHO/UNICEF estimates that the combination of these conditions results in 6,000 deaths everyday, mostly children.

In response, a dedicated handful of North American water professionals from the American Water Works Association established Water For People in 1991 and Water For People-Canada in 1995. They saw this as a natural extension of what their 60,000 members already do on a daily basis -- bring safe, sufficient drinking water to their own communities.

Water For People is an international nonprofit development organization committed to the long-term impact of increased access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation and health.
