Safe drinking water, basic health, hygiene education and sanitation facilities are nonexistent for impoverished people in the developing countries throughout the world. WHO/UNICEF estimates that the combination of these conditions results in 6,000 deaths everyday, mostly children. In response, a dedicated handful of North American water professionals from the American Water Works Association established Water For People in 1991 and Water For People-Canada in 1995. They saw this as a natural extension of what their 60,000 members already do on a daily basis -- bring safe, sufficient drinking water to their own communities. Scholarship

2010 Scholarship

This will become available in late April and an announcement will be emailed. Please subscribe to our "eBlast" to receive the announcement. College students will be requested to submit their application to the TAWWA Scholarship Committee before the July deadline.

2009 Scholarship

The Southeast Chapter gave scholarships to six students from this area. One state finalist received a $2000 scholarship and the remaining four students received Chapter Scholarship of $750 each.

2008 Scholarship

The State Scholarship Committee received 22 scholarship applications this year. There were 11 scholarships awarded this year. Two scholarships were given to SE Chapter area students. A state scholarship ($2000) was awarded to Ms. Jillian Robinson, attending Stephen F. Austin State University. A southeast chapter scholarship ($2000) was awarded to Ms. Frances Rabalais, attending Louisiana State University. Please join me in extending congratulations to our two Houston area scholarship recipients.

Young Professionals

Young Professionals (YP) represent an energetic group of AWWA members who are 35 years of age and under. The goal of the YP Committee is to provide an avenue for young professionals to network with industry professionals and get involved with AWWA. Southeast Chapter of Texas AWWA Chapters of Texas AWWA has been formed in several areas of the state so that the AWWA members can easily interact with the local water professionals in their area and partipitate in local activities. The Southeast Chapter of Texas AWWA encompasses 22 southeast counties of Texas. As a member of the Texas Section of American Water Works Association, you have an opportunity to meet and build relationships with your peers in the water community, attend bi-monthly meetings with other water professionals, as well as share ideas and information. The luncheon or dinner meetings are open to both AWWA members and non-members. The Southeast Chapter of Texas AWWA is a 501 (c) (3) exempt scientific/education organization.
