Texas Water 2012 - San Antonio, Texas

The annual Texas Water conference is once again heading to San Antonio in 2012. Dedicated volunteers from the Texas Section of the American Water Works Association, and the Water Environment Association of Texas have worked countless hours to make TW12 a great event that will provide knowledge to enhance the water and wastewater industries in Texas.

From the Exhibit Hall featuring more than 450 booths to the technical sessions, you'll join 2,500 representatives of the Texas water/wastewater industry who all agree, If you're only going to attend one water conference this year, Texas Water 2012 is the place to be.

April Chapter Luncheon

Our April Chapter Luncheon will be held on Thursday April 26th at H.E.S.S. Club. It is a requirement for all Texas PEs to have one hour of ethics training every year. In support of this requirement, we are hosting a session of ethics training this year.

Nominations for 2012 Executive Committee

After an eventful year, your 2011 Executive Committee is getting ready to transition to its new slate of officers and committee chairs for 2012. The Nominations Committee is soliciting nominations from its membership who wish to be part of the 2012 Executive Committee. The slate of candidates will be presented at our December Chapter Meeting.

Website Sponsorships

The sponsorship program is more than just recruiting sponsors for individual events. The program also recognizes firms who support other important chapter endeavors, most notably our website.

Baytown Area Water Authority - Water Plant Tour

The Baytown Area Water Authority (BAWA) will be providing a tour for our members of the Fritz Lanham Water Treatment Plant at 7425 Thompson Road, Baytown, TX.

Sign-In will begin at 4pm with tours starting promptly at 4:30pm. Food and refreshments will be served after the tours. This event is free for all public sector employees and $10 for all other guests. Proceeds from this event will benefit "Beer for Us, Water for People".

This is a great chance to get a close-up look of this facility. Space is limited, so sign up now.

Texas Hold'em Tournament

Come on over and bring your best poker face. The YP group will have a Texas Hold'em Tournament at the H.E.S.S. Club on Friday, October 28th at 6pm. Buy-in is $40 to play, or just come out and watch the action for $5.

All payments will be made at the door. Reservations are REQUIRED, so contact Coleman Philley, cphilley@browngay.com to reserve your seat now.

Water For People 6th Annual Fundraiser

The 6^th Annual “Beer for Us, Water For People” fundraiser at the St. Arnold Brewery is coming up on Wednesday, November 2nd from 6-8pm.Tickets will be $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Libations and some food will be provided. Proceeds benefit Water for People.

For those that aren’t aware, the St. Arnold Brewery has moved into a nice new facility at 2000 Lyons Ave, just north of downtown. If you have not been to the new location, this is a great opportunity to check it out (same great beer, now with A/C).

Texas Section Scholarship Deadline July 8th

The deadline for applying for a Texas Section AWWA Scholarship is fast approaching. An applicant must be either a recent college graduate about to start college, or a current full time college student taking a minimum of 21 credit hours per 12-month period. All applicants must be a curent Texas AWWA member, or an immediate family member.

Fellow SETAWWA members, I am honored to serve as the 2012 president of the Southeast Chapter of TAWWA and am humbled by the duty to continue the success this chapter has enjoyed under the leadership of the past several chapter presidents. Southeast Chapter of Texas AWWA Chapters of Texas AWWA were formed in several areas of the state so that the AWWA members can easily interact with the local water professionals in their area and partipitate in local activities. Celebrating its 15th year as a chapter, the Southeast Chapter of Texas AWWA was formed by Gary Smith in 1996 with the help of TAWWA Steering Committee. (Gary also started the North Texas Chapter in 1993.) The Southeast Chapter encompasses 22 southeast counties of Texas. As a member of the Texas Section of American Water Works Association, you have an opportunity to meet and build relationships with your peers in the water community, attend bi-monthly meetings with other water professionals, as well as share ideas and information. 2012 Call for Student Technical Research Papers 2010 Scholarship The Texas AWWA 2010 Scholarship application deadline closed on July 9, 2010. Winners will be announced late fall. There were 11 scholarships awarded this year. Four scholarships were given to the following Houston area students: Alison Contreras. Safe drinking water, basic health, hygiene education and sanitation facilities are nonexistent for impoverished people in the developing countries throughout the world. WHO/UNICEF estimates that the combination of these conditions results in 6,000 deaths everyday, mostly children.

In response, a dedicated handful of North American water professionals from the American Water Works Association established Water For People in 1991 and Water For People-Canada in 1995. They saw this as a natural extension of what their 60,000 members already do on a daily basis -- bring safe, sufficient drinking water to their own communities.

Water For People is an international nonprofit development organization committed to the long-term impact of increased access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation and health.
